Summer lovers rejoice! The kickoff to your favorite season is finally here!
From outdoor adventures, to beach days and cookouts, Memorial Day weekend has become the unofficial start of all things summer. Memorial Day itself, however, as we know, has a much more important meaning. It’s about remembrance. About honoring those who selflessly gave their lives for our country, and our freedom. That’s why when it comes to summer decorating, at least through July, for me it’s all about the red, white, and blue.
That said, with some holiday decor (Christmas excluded…because, let’s face it, is it really even Christmas if it doesn’t look like the North Pole has been relocated to your house?!), I prefer subtle touches. While I smile with joy at the vibrant flag colored isles of the local craft store, when it comes to my home, I enjoy something much more muted. Luckily, there are ways to add patriotic flare to your home without it being over the top. Below, I’ve assembled some of my favorite Instagram inspiration to bring American pride to your home this summer.
This little corner in Laura’s home stops me in my tracks every time it hits my Instagram feed. I love the deconstructed chair and ottoman, the shiplap, the antique crocks . . . . I could name every detail in this room. It’s all perfection! And, of course, I’m loving how Laura added small touches of American pride. The flags with white flowers and star pillow; they blend seamlessly with her decor, but also immediately catch your eye and remind you that summer has arrived.
If you are not following Kaley and you love farmhouse and shabby chic design, you need to jump on Instagram and hit that follow button! You will swoon over all of the inspiration on Kaley’s page. I promise! This adorable, and perfectly styled coffee station is just one small piece of her stunning home. I love how Kaley added the American flag banner to her gorgeous buffet. The banner has an antique, aged feeling to it that is the ideal compliment to this style home. Sometimes it only takes something small to make a statement.
We can’t forget outdoor spaces. And, Kelly has one of my favorite. I love Kelly’s outdoor space and her styling, because it is both beautiful and entirely attainable. Design that anyone can replicate is one of my favorites. While we would all love to live in the homes with the large wrap around porches and huge bed swings (I say as I drift off into dream land…) for many different reasons, we all don’t. So, I adore when people share spaces that can be copied in a variety of homes and on an array of budgets. Kelly always does a fabulous job of showing everyone accessible design. And, this porch is no exception. The gorgeous ferns and rockers blend wonderfully with the star pillows. The design also has a current, modern feel, which proves that a little red and some stars can be incorporated into any style home. So, even if you have a more trendy style, don’t be afraid to star spangle it up!
The season of picnics calls for a fun table setting. AmyBeth has an adorable home that perfectly mixes modern and traditional. I love her use of patterns and I can’t get enough of these adorable place settings! What a fabulous idea to use an old jean pocket! You have to check out AmyBeth’s feed to see the different ways she used the pocket to house utensils, napkins, and a menu. So cute! These place settings would look fabulous at your next bar-b-que, or just as everyday table decor!
I just recently found Brittany’s Instagram and I’m so happy I did. I am loving Brittany’s modern yet traditional style, with a splash of vintage. And, being a mom of boys, watching her prepare for the arrival of her sweet baby girl makes my heart so happy (and a little envious 😉). This photo is an older one, but I love the simple addition of the flag throw. Brittany is further proof that any style works with stars and stripes. This throw would look fantastic over any couch or chair. And, adds just enough Americana to carry you into 4th of July.
Now, go forth, and confidently add some touches of red, white and blue to your summer decor!
